Artist's Description
As great feeding filters, whale sharks clean the water. It is estimated that a single whale shark processes 6000 liters of water per hour. They tend to concentrate within the tropical belt because these are the areas with higher phytoplankton productivity. They also tend to appear in seasons when concentrations of phytoplankton and organic particles are at their highest, because that is when their janitorial services are most needed.

I hope these paintings will in some way inspire you to investigate these organisms further. Their wondrous forms and capabilities are often overlooked and underappreciated. Nancy Lueckhof
Hello Tom, I have just completed a novel, based on an amazing true story that took place in the PHilippines in 1937, where a huge whale shark rescued a 15 year old Filipina who had been lost at sea for 13 days. The adventure is a fascinating account of a truly miraculous tale. In doing research on whale sharks, I came across your paintings and am very impressed by your work. Would you consider allowing me to use your artwork as my cover and/or within the pages of my book? I would give you credit and it might also serve as great advertizing for you as well. I am self-publishing the novel and hope to have it in print this summer. I would appreciate hearing from you at your earliest convenience. Thank you. Nancy (n.lueckhof@gmx.de)
