They look down into the tide pools below, assessing how best to navigate their way. Perhaps they are descendents of those rescued from Dassen Island following the iron ore tanker sinking of 2000. Their population has fallen by 60% in the last decade alone, in part due to fewer anchovies and sardines, a result of trawling and climate change. You watch them waddle their way down and jump into the sea, where they are awkward no more.

I hope these paintings will in some way inspire you to investigate these organisms further. Their wondrous forms and capabilities are often overlooked and underappreciated.
