Description
Ever watchful, the sentinels have spotted potential danger. They have their speed, a product of evolution to evade a cat that once roamed these lands, but is now extinct. But the trials of their migration have only just begun, and heavy snowfall has slowed them considerably. Ahead lays a gauntlet of fences, roads, and housing developments. But first they must assess the present danger.
The Pronghorn can run as fast as 60 mi/hr and cruise at 30, as compared to a nearly 28 mi/hr top speed for a human. The Pronghorn evolved this speed to outrun the now extinct North American genus Miracinonyx, a very fast relative of the cougar. The animal signals threats by raising a ruff of white hair on the rump, which can be seen over a great distance.
